LIFE OrgBalt “Demonstration of climate change mitigation potential of nutrients rich organic soils in Baltic States and Finland” meeting “Presentations of the finalized protocols at the Lithuanian reference sites” was held on 25th–26th of August, 2020.
Attendees of the meetings have met at the “Best Western Santaka” Hotel (J. Gruodžio str. 21) in Kaunas. They represented participant countries as Finland, Estonia and Latvia.
The meeting started with introductory presentation “Current situation of project in Lithuania” by Dovilė Čiuldienė (LAMMC). Project Coordinator, Ieva Līcīte (given the presentation “Overview of project Actions and deliverables. Timetable of project. Situation about documentation and financial reports of LIFE OrgBalt”. Representative of the LUKE (Natural Resources Institute Finland), Päivi Mäkiranta revealed information on the site preparation for heterotrophic CO2 flux monitoring, Kaido Soosaar (University of Tartu) – on site preparation for CO2 measures. Raija Laiho (LUKE) given the presentation “Site preparation for litter production and decomposition measuring”, Andis Lazdiņš – “Soil and water sampling; when; how many samples per site, how often”. The national coordinator of the project, Kęstutis Armolaitis informed on the aboveground biomass production. Further, speakers provided protocols applicable for measurements and basic actualities and mistakes:
– Protocol: Heterotrophic CO2 flux monitoring (Päivi Mäkiranta).
– Protocol: Transparent chamber measurements (Kaido Soosaar).
– Protocol: Litter production and decomposition belowground measuring (Raija Laiho).

On 26th of August, meeting attendees have visited the established reference sites (drained spruce stand, drained cropland, black alder stands, perennial grassland) (Dubrava regional division of the State Forest Enterprise) and undrained sites (birch and black alder stands, perennial grasslands) at the Amalva wetland.
