On 27 June 2026, we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Academician Professor Habil. Dr Leonas Kadžiulis (1926–2014) – one of Lithuania’s most distinguished agronomists, an outstanding scientist, and the founder of the country's scientific school of grassland research.
Throughout his remarkable career, Professor Kadžiulis made an exceptional contribution to agricultural science. His pioneering research in grassland management, forage crop production, and sustainable agriculture laid the foundation for modern grassland science in Lithuania and continues to influence research today. Generations of scientists have built upon his work, ensuring that his scientific legacy remains highly relevant.
Professor Kadžiulis was widely respected not only for his scientific achievements but also for his dedication to mentoring young researchers, promoting academic excellence, and advancing agricultural research in Lithuania. His work significantly contributed to the development of Lithuanian agronomy and strengthened the country's scientific community.
To honour his life and achievements, the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, together with the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC) and the Lithuanian Grassland Society, will hold a commemorative event entitled "Following the Scientific Path of Academician Leonas Kadžiulis" on 30 June 2026 in Vilnius. The event will bring together colleagues, former students, family members, and researchers to reflect on Professor Kadžiulis' scientific legacy and lasting impact on Lithuanian agricultural science.
