LAMMC to Implement the “BioMsynergy” Project – Developing a Next-Generation Microbial Biostimulant

The Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC), in partnership with Bioenergy LT Ltd., has launched the BioMsynergy – Development and Application of a Synergistic Microbial Consortium for Plant Biostimulation project.

The project aims to develop an innovative microbial biostimulant based on a consortium of functional microorganisms designed to enhance plant growth, increase crop productivity, and improve resilience to environmental stress.

Unlike conventional single-strain microbial products, the biostimulant developed within the project will be based on a multifunctional microbial consortium, in which complementary microorganisms work synergistically. The consortium is expected to improve nutrient availability and uptake, stimulate phytohormone production, enhance soil structure, and promote overall plant health and physiological performance.

During the project, researchers will optimise the composition of the microbial consortium, establish fermentation and stabilisation parameters, and evaluate its performance on major Lithuanian agricultural crops, including wheat, oilseed rape, maize, faba beans, and peas. The studies will assess the biostimulant’s effects on plant growth, root development, physiological and biochemical parameters, as well as changes in soil microbiota.

The project is being implemented by LAMMC in collaboration with Bioenergy LT Ltd., which will contribute to the development of fermentation processes and the technological prototype. The consortium aims to achieve Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL7) by developing a stable, industrial-scale prototype of the microbial consortium together with its production and application protocols.

The project is expected to contribute to the transition towards more sustainable agriculture by promoting the use of biological products and reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers.
