PhD student Mudassar Hussain completed internship in Italy

Mudassar Hussain, PhD student from the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Technology at the Institute of Horticulture, LAMMC has successfully completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the National Research Council (CNR), Italy, from April 20 to June 30, 2026. The research visit was supported through COST Action programme CA22134.

During the internship, Mudassar Hussain conducted advanced experimental research on the valorisation of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) biomass for sustainable food packaging applications. The project focused on developing environmentally friendly, biodegradable packaging materials from hemp-derived resources using innovative and sustainable processing approaches.

This research contributes to the development of novel bio-based packaging materials within the framework of the circular bioeconomy and supports global efforts to reduce dependence on conventional petroleum-based plastics.

Beyond the scientific achievements, the STSM strengthened international collaboration between LAMMC and CNR, fostering knowledge exchange, advanced laboratory training, and opportunities for future joint research initiatives.

We warmly congratulate Mudassar Hussain on the successful completion of his international research internship and wish him continued success in his PhD research and future scientific career.
