PhD student Shervin Hadian visited the Center for Plant Genome Engineering at Heinrich Heine...

From July 18 to August 1 Shervin Hadian, PhD student and junior researcher, at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Institute of Agriculture, LAMMC visited the Center for Plant Genome Engineering at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf (Germany).

The Center is internationally recognised for its expertise in precise plant genome editing, using both classical transgenic methods and cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas technologies. The research team focuses on the development of innovative genome editing strategies in cereal crops, especially barley, to improve key agronomic traits.

During two-week scientific visit, practical experience was gained in the transgenic barley transformation workflow, gene construct design, and molecular screening techniques. The visit also provided an opportunity for in-depth scientific discussions, particularly on the integration of CRISPR-based tools into research on endophyte-host plant interaction studies.

The visit facilitated to establish new professional connections and laid the groundwork for possible future collaboration between LAMMC and Heinrich Heine University.

The scientific visit was funded by the 2021–2027 EU Funds Investment Programme Economic Recovery and Resilience Measure “Next Generation Lithuania” (NextGenerationEU), project No. 10-038-T-0160.
