Presentation of the “Horizon Europe”, the EU’s research and innovation framework programme

On March 17, the event organized by the Lithuanian Science Council and the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry presented the forthcoming “Horizon Europe”, the EU’s research and innovation framework programme running from 2021–2027.

“Internationality is what modern science must strive for, it is necessary to constantly establish and maintain relations with foreign research and study institutions. International projects help to develop innovations and commercialization of research” says LAMMC Deputy Director for Science Dr. Vita Tilvikienė

 “Horizon Europe” in short

The programme “Horizon Europe” is a key EU initiative designed to support research and innovation from conception to commercialization, which complements national and regional funding.

The programme “Horizon Europe” (the continuation of the EU programme “Horizon 2020” includes 3 pillars:

Pillar 1. Excellent science.
Pillar 2. Global challenges and European industrial competitiveness.
Pillar 3. Innovative Europe.

The horizontal pillar “Dissemination of progress and development of the European Research Area” aims to bridge the gap in science quality and innovation between European countries.

The event provided relevant information for researchers

The new “Horizon Europe” programme, its legal and financial trends were presented. Calls for proposals in the pillar of “Excellent Science” were discussed in more detail: calls from Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, the European Science Council (ERC). Action groups on “Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness” were also presented: Health, Culture, Creativity and an Inclusive Society, Food, the Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and the Environment. In addition, the participants were introduced to the horizontal pillar “Dissemination of progress and development of the European Research Area”.

The speakers introduced the National Contact Points (NCPs) of the LMT thematic areas and the activities of the Lithuanian Research Development and Innovation Liaison Office in Brussels (LINO).
