Scientists discussed about increasing yield of vegetables in Estonia

10–12 June 2019, the NJF – Nordic Association of Agricultural Science International Conference on Horticulture was held in Tartu, Estonia.

The Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, Institute of Horticulture, Laboratory of Plant Physiology PhD student Asta Kupčinskienė (Bylaitė) did a presentation on a topic of “The antioxidative potential of lettuces after inoculation by Botrytis cinerea”.

During presentation were emphasized the response of green leaf lettuce after artificial infection by pathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea. To sum up the total phenolic content and polyphenol – flavonoid index increased at first and second days after inoculation (dai). Closed controlled chambers have been monitored by high-pressure sodium (HPS) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) lighting. At an international conference, scientists from Canada, Sweden, England, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania shared their experiences of sustainable horticulture. During protected cultivation, fertilization, breeding, genetic resources and organic production sessions, discussions were held on the use of environmentally friendly microorganisms to effectively increase of crop yields. The importance of vegetable resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, plant adaptability to changing climate conditions was proposed and it was proposed to accelerate the spread of agricultural innovations using information technologies.
