On 14–15 April, LAMMC organised a meeting of the Interreg Europe project “Policies to enhance the competitiveness of forest-sector small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in resource-efficient European regions” (FBI4EU) and social partners in Kaunas. The event brought together participants from Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Belgium.
The first day of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the project and to exchange of views on the currently developing EU Bioeconomy Strategy and its importance for Lithuania’s forest sector (speaker: Dr Gediminas Jasinevičius, Adviser to the Forest Policy Group at the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania). Presentations were also delivered on innovation development at LAMMC and cooperation with business (Dr Linas Jurgutis, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Manager of the Department of Science and Innovations, LAMMC), as well as on changes in the implementation of innovations in companies providing forestry services (Simona Užkuraitė, PhD student at Vytautas Magnus University). Arthur Duyck, PhD student at the University of Mons, presented a holistic approach under development for species assessment and a decision-support system for sustainable construction (Timber selection for sustainable construction – TUP4C).
Participants also visited forest-based industry companies UAB “Fitsout” and UAB “Jūrės medis”, which made a strong impression as highly modern and forward-looking enterprises, significantly outperforming comparable companies in Lithuania and across Europe in terms of sustainable production.
