On July 14–17, the microbiology congress FEMS MICRO 2025 was held in Milan, Italy, with the participation of researchers Dr. Skaidrė Supronienė and PhD student Neringa Matelionienė from the Microbiology Laboratory of the Institute of Agriculture, Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC).

The event gathered over 2,000 participants from 90 countries. This year’s congress theme, “Magnifying Microbial Impact”, aimed to go beyond traditional scientific presentations by integrating cutting-edge research with practical solutions to address urgent global challenges.

During the congress, the researchers attended a wide range of lectures and oral presentations covering topics such as microbial dynamics in soil, marine, human, and other ecosystems, their changes in the context of a changing climate, space microbiology, soil microbial ecology, infectious diseases, plant-microbe interactions, and innovative microbiome research methods.

The LAMMC researchers presented a poster presentation titled “Impact of tillage practices and white mustard cover cropping on soil microbial diversity” and established new connections with researchers from other countries.

The participation of the researchers was funded by the EU Structural Funds Investment Programme 2021–2027 under the Recovery and Resilience Facility project “NextGeneration Lithuania” (project No. 10-038-T-0159). The research was supported by the Research Council of Lithuania (No. S-MIP-24-104).
